1. Overview
Hours Given is a local-first iPhone and iPad app. V1 has no Hours Given account, developer-operated backend, ads, developer analytics, or third-party tracking SDK. Your primary record is stored on your device in the app’s private local/App Group archive.
Apple may process information when you choose to use StoreKit, iCloud, notifications, Calendar, Motion, Microphone, or Speech services. Those services are governed by your Apple settings and Apple’s own terms and privacy practices.
2. Your local record
The local archive can contain information you author or confirm, such as:
- activity names, categories, dates, start and end times, and durations;
- review status, Unknown or open time, corrections, and evidence notes;
- reflections, check-ins, values, priorities, intentions, Anchors, Resets, and Life Chapters; and
- privacy-minimal purchase entitlement state needed to decide which app features are available.
The app shares this local archive only with its own widget and App Intents through Apple’s App Group. Hours Given does not operate a server that receives this archive.
3. Optional Apple context
Calendar and Motion
Calendar and Motion context is requested only after an explicit action. For a selected date range, Calendar access can include event and calendar titles used to form editable suggestions. Motion can provide coarse activity context. A suggestion is not treated as proof of what happened and does not enter your canonical record until you edit or save it.
Microphone and Speech
Typed reconstruction is always available separately. Voice reconstruction proceeds only when Apple reports on-device recognition support for the device and locale. Temporary audio remains outside the canonical archive, is excluded from backup, and the app attempts cleanup immediately and retries cleanup when necessary.
Notifications
If you opt in, Hours Given schedules local reminders on the device. Notification permission can be changed in iOS Settings. Delivery is controlled by iOS and is not guaranteed.
4. Purchases
Apple processes subscription purchases and payment details. Hours Given does not receive or store your payment-card details. The app stores a minimal entitlement snapshot, which can include a product identifier, plan, verification and access phase, expiration, billing grace, revocation and renewal state, and Family Sharing state.
Restore Purchases asks Apple to synchronize eligible transactions and may require Apple Account authentication. Subscription management, cancellation, billing, and refunds are handled through Apple.
5. Optional private iCloud backup
Anyone can optionally enable a private CloudKit backup when the app reports the required iCloud container available. Backup does not require Premium and is never part of a purchase. Your local archive remains primary. The backup uses Apple’s private CloudKit database for your Apple Account and is not a public or developer-owned sync service.
To keep Apple Health and Motion-derived values out of iCloud, Hours Given will not upload or restore an archive that contains, or has previously contained, Health or Motion evidence. A content-free marker preserves this boundary if a source interval is later removed. The marker resets only when you complete Delete All for the private archive.
Hours Given stores a checksummed private CloudKit archive plus the metadata needed to detect versions and conflicts. A conflict requires a choice; the app does not silently merge competing archives. Availability depends on Apple Account, network, iCloud, entitlements, and service state, so backup is not a guarantee against device loss.
6. Retention, export, and deletion
Local records remain until you edit or delete them, delete all app data, or remove the app and its retained container according to iOS behavior. Raw JSON export is available without Premium so you can keep a portable copy before replacing or deleting data.
“Delete all” deletes the local archive and attempts deletion of any reachable, known private iCloud copy. If iCloud is offline, unavailable, signed out, or associated with another Apple Account, the app may be unable to confirm cloud deletion and will report that state so you can retry. Deleting app data does not cancel an App Store subscription.
7. Your choices and controls
- Decline optional permissions or revoke them in iOS Settings.
- Review and edit suggestions before saving them.
- Correct historical records and authored material.
- Export a raw JSON copy without Premium.
- Delete local data and request deletion of a reachable known iCloud copy.
- Manage or cancel a subscription through Apple.
Because V1 has no developer account or backend, Hours Given does not maintain a developer-side profile or marketing list for you to access or delete.
8. Optional Help & Feedback
This section applies to the optional Help & Feedback flow introduced in version 1.1, when that version is available. It does not change how earlier versions handle your local archive.
If you choose to contact us, we receive the message you send, your sender email address, any screenshots you explicitly select, and any optional app/device details you include. Hours Given does not automatically attach your activity archive or logs. Review your message and screenshots before sharing; visible private information in screenshots is not automatically redacted. Your email app may also include a signature.
We use feedback to provide support, investigate problems and consider requested improvements. Within Hours Given, only the owner reviews support correspondence. Email services, including Gmail, process correspondence under their own terms and privacy practices; this is not an end-to-end encrypted support channel. Resolved messages and screenshots are deleted from our support inbox within 90 days after resolution. Open issues are retained while support is ongoing. Contact creatormarketinggroup@gmail.com to request deletion of feedback held by us. Email-provider backups and copies in your own email account may have separate retention rules.
Unsent feedback drafts are stored locally, separately from your Hours Given activity archive and private iCloud backup. You can discard a draft in Help & Feedback. Complete deletion in Hours Given removes its local draft but cannot retract email already sent or remove copies you shared with another app.
